# Sounds

Sounds are spawned by the [microphone](/tools/microphone.md) or from them [shelf](/tools/shelf.md) when [importing audio files](/import/import-sounds.md).

You can record sounds with the microphone or import them from a [project folder](/projects.md). You can place sounds around, change the sound distance and volume.

Sounds are synchronized with the [timeline](/tools/timeline.md) and have their timing represented as clips. So they play when you play the timeline. You can edit the clips.
